Sweden – Vietnam strengthen partners’ cooperation in agriculture and rural development

   6/22/2010

The commitment is reflected in the Memmorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in Hanoi on 2 June 2010 by the Ambassador of Sweden, Mr Rolf Bergman on behalf of the Minister of Agriculture of Sweden and the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, Mr Cao Duc Phat. The Ministry of Agriculture of Sweden and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam have agreed to continue promoting their cooperation based on equal, reciprocal and mutual benefits. The MOU also confirms that both sides will continue to intensify the exchange of information, knowledge and experience in various prioritised areas of agriculture and rural development. They include inter alia state management functions in fisheries, irrigation and rural development; food safety; animal health; crop and seed varieties; forest management; and research. In his remarks delivered at the signing ceremony, Ambassador Rolf Bergman emphasised that the MOU is a great step towards a new form of cooperation between parties from Sweden and Vietnam. He said: “It is a privilege to attend this ceremony and be part of a continuation of our longstanding relations in new and exciting forms. We are thus leaving a relation very much based on a donor-recipient basis and entering a relation which will be between two equal partners.” (For further information contact the Press & Communication Officer at the Embassy of Sweden, Ms Dinh Thu Huong)
