In recent years, the cooperation in the agricultural trade between the two countries is still limited. Total export turnover of agricultural products from Vietnam to Bulgaria is still very low despite the fact that tropical agricultural food and fruit in Viet Nam is still the popular items in Bulgaria.

In order to promote bilateral trade cooperation:

- Experience exchanged and shared in the field of food safety control, food quality control and food safety risk assessment.

- Vietnam and Bulgaria has not signed the Agreement on Veterinary Cooperation. However, the two sides have started to exchange information and provide the relevant documents on veterinary. The two Ministries will proceed to formulate and sign the agreements on veterinary hygiene conditions for animals and animal products as well as inform each other about competent veterinary agencies which have the competent to issue quarantine certificates for export.

In relation to collaborative research: the Research Institutes in Bulgaria have a lot of research projects which should be suggested for both sides to promote, which are:

- Cooperate in agriculture, plant varieties and genetic resources for some crops such as grape, tomato, maize, bean, and sunflower. Cooperate in doing research and selecting the proper varieties of beef, pork and poultry as well as mechanizing farms for livestock development.

- Cooperate in storage and seafood processing; conserve and exploit sustainably fisheries resources.

- Cooperate in biotechnology and food safety; Promote cooperation on the proper technology to use agricultural by-products (straw, stems, etc...) as fertilizer, gas, electricity, paper...

- Both sides need to find a solution to the financial mechanism for Bulgarian scientists to work and exchange knowledge in Vietnam as well as for Vietnamese scientists to study in Bulgaria.

In relation to the"Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on cooperating in Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries", the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam agreed with the Bulgarian side that the Memorandum of Understanding will be signed in ministerial level and be advanced to the official signing when Bulgarian Presidential delegation visit Vietnam. ed |[1]ysr[1]Hen summited for approval with a total amount of 5.8 million USD.

How to feed 9 billion people in 2050 is one of the biggest challenges of our era. Global food production must rise by at least 70 percent in 2050, with two time less natural resources. Without strong adaptation and mitigation measures climate change will reduce food crop yields 16 percent worldwide and by 28 percent in Africa over the next fifty years. It is likely that price and yield volatility will continue to rise as extreme weather continues, further hurting livelihoods and putting food security at risk. We can no longer look at food security, poverty and climate change separately. Climate-Smart Agriculture is a driver for green growth and the role of the private sector in driving the green, inclusive growth agenda needs to be emphasized.
